The Asamu Johnson Projects's four member band is dedicated to preserving the traditional blues sound.The spirit and soul of the blues can be felt as well as heard in the words of their music. It has been said that Asamu's music is "written with a lot of wisdom and a sense of hurmor." As you listen to the words of "Bow Legs & Big Feet" you might wonder of the wisdom and the humor. While some of the members ventrued early in their careers into other forms of music such as country and rock n roll, their hearts returned them back to their roots, back to the blues.

Asamu Johnson and Mike "Blue Dog" Howe began their friendship and partnership in 1994 when they both were asked to play in a band called Slick Blues inc. While blues was part of the band's song list, it actually lent more twards the mo-town sound of the late 50's and 60's. The group was successful in it's own right for a while however, longevity was not in the cards. After leaving the group in 1996, Asamu started a group known as Fatt Lapp Blues, and Dog stayed with Slick till the very end. In 1997 Mike Howe would also join Asamu in the Fatt lapp group. All during this time, young Mike "Hurrican" Howe was studdying and learning everything he could about blues music and the guitar. And in 2003 he to joined the Fatt Lapp Blues Band. For the next five years this group played and entertained all over the state of Michigan. After some time Dog was asked to play with the Weezil Malone band of Grand Rapids, MI to share the stage with his younger brother Gordie Howe. Around this time Hurricane got his first big road gig with Blind Pig recording artist Harper. Asamu continued on with Fatt Lapp.

In 2009 Asamu was looking for something a little stronger than the average bar band. He called Dog up and began to talk about the possibilty of a Nation Touring Blues band. Hurricane was just geting back from tours with Harper so "The Asamu Johnson Project" was formed. It featured Hurricane on Lead, Dog on Rhythem, Asamu on Bass and lead vocals, and Deshawn "Cold Work" Wilkerson on drums. Deshawn was a great fit for the project. His beat was driving when needed, and smooth. His ability and style was like none other, he filled the dance floor be it fast and driving, or slow and easy. It was learned soon after the forming of AJP that Deshawn was going to need some down time. Diagnosed with cancer, he went in for surgery. The group had to locate a substitute drummer to give Work time to heal. Where else to find a replacement then in church. Hurricane learned of Anthony "T-Bone" Lubenow and thus, "T-bone" carries the beat for the group.
